A litter holds everything about one set of puppies: each puppy, their weights, the diary and their buyers. Start the litter when the puppies are arriving or have just arrived. If mum has a pregnancy recorded, Breeders Aid links the two, so the calendar swaps the estimated dates for the real birth date.

Steps

  1. Tap Litters, then tap New litter. (You can also tap New litter in the Litters section of mum's profile.)
  2. Tap Mum, then choose her from the Who is mum? list. Use the search box if she isn't shown.
  3. If mum has a pregnancy on record, you'll see a question such as Is this litter from Willow's breeding? Choose the pregnancy (for example With Rocky · due 14 Oct) to link the litter to it, or choose No — a different breeding. If there's just one, it's chosen for you and dad is filled in.

  4. Tap Dad (optional) to choose dad, or leave it.
  5. Check Born on. It's today unless you change it.
  6. Check the Litter name. It's filled in from the parents (for example Willow × Rocky). You can type your own.
  7. If you have one, type the Registration litter number (optional). It's used to give each puppy its registration code.

  8. Tap Create litter.
  9. Bernie celebrates. Tap Whelping mode if puppies are still arriving, or Add puppies if they're all here.

Tips

  • Whelping mode is built for the whelping box: big buttons and very little typing. See Record each birth in Whelping mode.
  • If you get the birth date wrong, you can fix it later with Change birth date in the litter's ••• menu (top right). See Fix a mistake in a litter or puppy.
  • To add puppies one at a time later, open the litter, tap the Puppies tab and tap Add puppy.

Troubleshooting

  • It says "Choose the mum first". A litter needs a mum. Tap Mum and pick her before tapping Create litter.
  • Mum isn't in the Who is mum? list. Type her name in the search box. The list only shows dogs recorded as female. See Add a dog to Breeders Aid.
  • I can't choose a date next week for Born on. The birth date can't be more than a day ahead. Start the litter when the puppies are arriving.
  • I linked the wrong pregnancy. The link is set when the litter is created. Contact us through Help & support in More if it needs changing.
  • I created a litter by mistake. If it has no puppies yet, open it, tap ••• at the top right and choose Remove litter….
